The Baglio del Cristo di Campobello project is a visionary initiative founded by Angelo, Domenico, and Carmelo Bonetta, aimed at successfully encapsulating “Sicilianity” in their wines. This ambitious endeavor was greatly enhanced by the expertise of Riccardo Cotarella, one of Italy’s leading enologists. The winery, which underwent renovation 12 years ago, quickly focused on highlighting the unique characteristics of a region with significant potential: the chalky limestone hills located south of Campobello di Licata.
Surrounded by gentle hills of chalky limestone at an altitude of 300 meters, the estate’s vines flourish in the Campobello countryside. While the summer climate is typically scorching for the Sicilian hinterland, it is moderated here by cool breezes from the nearby Sicilian Channel. The estate cultivates a range of grapes, including Grillo, Chardonnay, Nero d’Avola, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, all thriving in this exquisite terroir. Although the first harvest took place in 2007, the winery has quickly established itself as a notable presence not only in the Sicilian wine scene but across Italy as well.
