The estate is the result of the union of two prestigious winemaking families: the Manns, who have been winegrowers since the early 17th century, and the Barthelmés, the current owners, who have been cultivating vines since 1654. Located in the heart of Alsace, in the village of Wettolsheim, the estate thrives in a region with a rich winemaking tradition. Over the years, the collaboration of the Mann and Barthelmé families has allowed the estate to continue its legacy, with many individuals from various backgrounds contributing to its growth.
In 1997, biodynamics became an obvious choice for the estate. This approach requires significant effort and investment, but it imparts a unique identity to the wine, offering a true reflection of the terroir. Through biodynamic preparations, the estate nurtures the organic life of the soil and promotes the development of mycorrhizae on the vine roots. These factors, along with careful management of plowing and plant cover, allow the roots to reach deep into the earth, capturing minerals from the degradation of the bedrock.
Our goal is to produce wines in harmony with the land, where the essence of the grape is preserved and expressed. The cellar, a sacred space, is where the magic happens, transforming the work of an entire year into wine. Today, the estate spans 23 hectares, divided into around 100 small plots, each worked as a unique garden. Throughout the winemaking process, finesse is the guiding principle, and our wines develop delicately in the winery at the bottom of the village.
