Established in 1983 by fourth-generation winemaker Giacomo Rallo, the Donnafugata estate boasts a rich family winemaking heritage that has been renowned for quality since 1851. The name Donnafugata, meaning “woman on the run” in Italian, is inspired by Queen Marie-Caroline of Naples, who sought refuge on the land of a local prince in Sicily during Napoleon’s occupation of Naples.
Located in Marsala, the estate produces wines across five different sites. The Donnafugata team’s profound passion for Sicilian terroir and its treasures is evident in their adoption of environmentally friendly viticultural methods. They take great care to minimise environmental impact and even display the carbon footprint of each wine on the label.
