Hacienda Monasterio is a prominent name in Ribera del Duero. Situated near the villages of Pesquera de Valbuena del Duero on the renowned Golden Mile, the estate spans 170 hectares with north-facing vines, including plots of Cabernet, Merlot, and Malbec that complement the Tinto Fino.
The Hacienda Monasterio as it exists today originated from an idea by Peter Sisseck in 1990. When Sisseck arrived in Ribera del Duero to manage the cellar and plant vines, his visionary approach enabled him to cultivate the vineyard with exceptional radiance. The current cellar, designed by French architect Philippe Maziéres—who had previously worked for prestigious estates like Château Margaux and Château d’Yquem—was constructed between 1991 and 1992. Two years later, Carlos de la Fuente joined as Peter’s right-hand man.
The estate’s cellar is a model of modernity, with three buildings featuring temperature and humidity control systems that enhance the quality of the estate’s wines. Equipped with stainless steel tanks, temperature control systems, analytical labs, cooling systems, and natural gravel floors, Hacienda Monasterio boasts all the attributes of a premier estate. Only Crianza and Reserva wines are produced here, matured in one-year-old Bordeaux casks, and they consistently rank among the finest in the region.
