Kanonkop is a wine estate owned by the 4th generation of a family, celebrated for its red wines, with a significant portion dedicated to Pinotage, which accounts for 50% of all plantings. The Pinotage vines at Kanonkop were among the earliest commercially cultivated in the Cape, with many of them exceeding 50 years in age. Achieving optimal ripeness is crucial for producing high-quality red wines, and the estate meticulously ensures that grapes are harvested at the peak of perfection.
Following a time-honored tradition, winemaking at Kanonkop takes place in open concrete fermenters, distinguished by their wide and shallow design rather than the typical tall and deep tanks. Every aspect of cellaring, bottling, and labeling occurs on-site at Kanonkop.
