Founded in 1998 by Francesco Illy, heir to the Illy coffee family, this winery spans 75 acres of biodynamic vineyards set on two opposing mountainsides, surrounded by forest, olive groves, a vegetable garden, and fruit trees. Situated amid the picturesque Tuscan hills of Montalcino, it offers breathtaking views of the rolling countryside.
Initially established in Castelnuovo dell’Abate on Montalcino’s eastern side, the winery expanded in 2017 to include an additional site at Il Galamppio on the western side. Both locations feature pristine oceanic soils—each within distinct geological areas—and benefit from exceptionally pure air, providing ideal conditions for cultivating high-quality grapes used to produce their remarkable wines.
