The Dönnhoff family takes great pride in calling Oberhausen an der Nahe home. Spanning from Niederhausen to Schloßböckelheim, the stunning landscapes of the Nahe Valley have influenced us for over 250 years. The Dönnhoff name was first officially recorded in 1761, with the family’s history recounting significant milestones such as the early growth in 1781 and the exceptional grape harvest of 1784. The foundation for the estate’s success was laid by Helmut Dönnhoff’s grandfather. From the very beginning, Hermann Dönnhoff (1880-1953) focused on planting Riesling vines in the valley’s finest vineyards, and by the 1920s, he was bottling and selling wines from individual vineyard sites. We owe a great deal to his son, Hermann Jr. (1916-1991), who not only cultivated our “Oberhäuser Brücke” vineyard but also built the press house in 1936 and the estate’s first cellar. In 1953, the estate was honored with a Merit of Honor from the government in recognition of its exceptional contributions to viticulture.
